That’s romantic mate.
I haven’t been to Honolulu but a lot of my friends are talking about the beauty of the place.
I found an interesting article which you can find at it’s an interesting article where you can get weekend getaways at discounted prices in Fiji, Paris, and including Honolulu.

Depends on the atmosphere you are looking for, and also there are differences on each island. If you are focusing on snorkeling, Oahu has the best variety of areas to snorkel from “that great sandy beach”.
* If you are looking to enjoy the hustle-bustle of an international crowd from all over the world, mega-shopping, unlimited restaurants, and an urban beach scene on par with Rio de Janeiro, that is Waikiki. You can stay at a hotel outside Waikiki so you are near without being right in the middle of it, and then you can consider The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel which is literally right on the beach in a low-key “quiet” area of Waikiki Beach (San Souci Beach, right under Diamond Head) with snorkeling right off the beach (immaculate but small rooms however). The Kahala Resort is 5-star luxury 10 minutes away from Waikiki in the upscale Kahala district with golfing, unsure on how good snorkeling is there. Oahu has spectacular yet quiet, beautiful tropical scenery with lonely tropical beaches and great snorkeling, but you will need to stay on the other side of the island (Kailua, Lanikai) where the locals have (to date) successfully banned hotels so you will need to stay in a B&B.
* If you want a less urban experience and sit on great tropical beaches in a great hotel, Maui is the place for you. It does not have a major city, so it primarily contains lines of hotels on beaches and 2nd homes, and “feels” like a tropical resort area. It has a less international feel and has a higher percentage of American vacationers than the other islands and to me for tourists (not local Kama’ainas) feels less exotic but many people prefer this island. There is some good snorkeling from Kihei (near Wailea/Makena), but the best easily accessible snorkeling is near Kapalua and Napili Bay (you will definitely see sea turtles here). The very best snorkeling on Maui however is only accessible by boat tours…Molokini, an offshore sunken caldera filled with coral.
* If you want the least populated tourist island, and enjoy the quiet and peace with the beauty of Tahiti or Fiji, that is Kauai (this is the island they filmed the original movie South Pacific, and more recently scenes from Jurassic Park). Stay on the leeward (dry) side of the island at Poipu Beach if you want more sun when you sit on the beach (good snorkeling), but if you want to have the classic South Seas paradise scene outside your door, go to the other side of the island at/near Hanalei/Princeville (higher chance of rain, but greener!). There is good snorkeling at Hanalei and Ke’e beach (where they filmed the beach love scene from the Thorn Birds). Note that if you stay at the Princeville Resort like many do, it is situated on a cliff with great views but not right on the beach.

Maui; it fits what the two of you want perfectly.
Plus, it’s BEAUTIFUL! Besides my home island, Maui is my favorite.

The best island to relax and snorkel would be Kauai. It is not as commercialized as Maui or Oahu. Maui would be next. Oahu is very commercialized. Walk out of your hotel onto the busy streets. Everything you need or want is within a very short distance on Oahu.

I have been to the Island of Oahu, 6 times and going again this May. I think, for your money (very short trip), Oahu would be your best bet! You can go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay and totally relax on Waikiki Beach!!! Buy a 4day The Bus bus pass (it is only $20.00, and it takes you round the whole island!!!
Have fun and enjoy!!!

i live on the island of Oahu, and if you want to go somewhere to snorkel, the best place that i recommend is hanauma bay. it is about 10 miles east of Waikiki just off the main coastal road Kalaniana’ole Highway.
if you were going to go during the summer, its open from 6am to 7pm except on tuesdays(they are always closed on tuesdays). on the 2nd and 4th saturdays of each month, they stay open till 10pm. for winter, it is open from 6am till 6pm. on the second Saturday of each month, they stay open until 10pm.
if you want to call them, you can google hanauma bay and go to their official cite. you can find their number there. hope this helped. and if you come here, have fun! he mea iki!
