i mostly care about the beauty of the beach and how close it is to the beach. other than i d like a good view, for example i would **** it if my room would be looking to the dumpster,to a wall, into someone else’s room, etc.

I have stayed at both and would rate the MAUI royal lahaina as better
Our family of 2 adults and 2 children and 2 grandparents stayed at the Royal Lahaina in May 07. We had booked ocean view rooms in the newly refurbished main building well ahead of our trip through our travel agent. We also requested adjoining rooms at this time. We got both upon arrival The room itself was really lovely and we really loved the room. It was very clean and the beds were lovely and comfortable. The beach out the front of the hotel was absolutely magnificent. It was everything that you would dream of when you think of Maui. We took our children snorkelling right out the front of the hotel and saw all sorts of beautiful fish and even a sea urchin right there in about 12ft of water. It was a great experience. We enjoyed a lovely buffet breakfast each morning at the restaurant in the hotel. It was really nice. A bit of a wait in line each morning but not too bad and definately worth the wait. Allow a bit of extra time if you want to go somewhere early. Overall we had a fantastic time
The Ilikai Hotel is a good place to sleep at. There is no room service, no guest services what so ever and the Canoe Restrauant is open for breakfast and drinks in the evening but, If I remember correctly it isn’t open past 9 P. M. So, don’t count on having fun there. The Pool closes at 7:30 P.M. every night. Room service is great as long as you tip, otherwise you may not get clean towels or anything else such as coffee for the coffee maker. Also they passed the law in Oahu that smoking is NO LONGER allowed in hotels. The Ilikai Hotel will charge you a reconditioning fee of $300.00 if your caught smoking in your room or on your balcony. I don’t smoke but thought I would let smokers know! I know this because there were smokers in our group. Also, the Hilton next door is doing some construction and the workers start work around 6 A.M. every morning

I have not stayed at the Ilikai, so cannot speak to the rooms, but basedon your criteria of view & beach, you would be better off with the Royal Lahaina. I satyed there years ago & it was very nice. I understand it has been refurbished recently. But it is right on the beach, which the Ilikai is not.
