Will I be able to swim for long distances in Hawaii?

I live in a place with lakes now, and I take long swims. I’ll be in Hawaii next winter (Maui or Oahu) or and will want to swim a lot. is it easy to take long swims in Hawaii, or are there lakes at all. Could I swim along the beach somehow? Thanks.

No swimmable lakes on Oahu. Most people who do distance swimming on Oahu do laps (long laps) at Ala Moana Beach Park. There are reefs that protect the area, making it an easy place to swim. It is possible to swim along the coast, but it is not an easy swim. There is a race that is called the “Rough Water Swim” that is along Waikiki. So that gives you some idea. But it is possible.

The beach behind Colony Sunset is a great place for a long distance swim. It’s near the fountain (you’ll know it when you see it). There’s decent streek parking in the mornings
You can also start there and swim to the Hilton at the other end of Waikiki.
